Biography
Anurag Kashyap’s early life was rooted in literature, music, and exposure to different parts of India, thanks to his family moving around. He attended Hillgrange Preparatory School, Scindia School, and later Hansraj College. Despite academic disruptions, he gravitated toward cinema.
He co-wrote Satya (1998), which became a landmark crime film. His directorial debut was Paanch, which faced censorship issues and was never released theatrically. But that did not deter him. Black Friday (2004) based on the 1993 bombings, though delayed, established him as a filmmaker unafraid of controversy.
His style evolved: Dev.D (2009) reimagined Devdas for modern India, Gulaal (2009) explored political power, and Gangs of Wasseypur (Part 1 & 2, 2012) became a defining epic of crime families and revenge.
He also ventured into producing films like The Lunchbox (2013), which was internationally acclaimed, and web series such as Sacred Games.
