Shashank Khaitan was born on 27 February 1982 in Kolkata, West Bengal, into a Marwari business family. Though born in Kolkata, he was raised in parts of Maharashtra (including Nashik). Cinetown In his early years, Khaitan showed interest in performance and entertainment; he taught dance, participated in related work, and later moved to Mumbai to pursue filmmaking.
He studied at Whistling Woods International (a film institute by Subhash Ghai) to build technical skills. Before his breakthrough as director, he assisted in films like Black & White and Yuvvraaj. He also attempted a film called Sherwani Kahaan Hai around 2011 while still in workshop / student projects, though it never released.
